Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about NU Giving Day 2020.

Why should I give to National University?

Your support empowers National University to do what it does best. Since 1971, we’ve supported adult learners — from parents raising families and working full-time jobs to military servicemembers serving at home and abroad — through our affordable, accessible education. Philanthropy plays a powerful role at NU  by providing the margin of excellence that allows the University to continue to provide a world-class education, enhance programs, and improve and  increase access to education.  NU is focused on offering a transformative experience for our undergraduate and graduate students.

Additionally, in response to the statewide academic shutdowns seen due to COVID-19, NU has stepped up to support California students in need. Your gift to NU’s Emergency Education Scholarship can keep NU students and those across California healthy, on track, and on time.

What is #NUGivingDay?

#NUGivingDay is a 24-hour day of giving in support of National University on May 27, 2020. The day is driven by social media, NU Ambassadors, email, and online campaigns as NU alums, faculty, staff, students, and friends come together to build towards National University’s future.

Please make your gift to the area of NU that means the most to you! When we come together, we make a big impact that makes big dreams come true.

What are NU Ambassadors?

The strength of #NUGivingDay is social media and NU Ambassadors. After you sign up as an Ambassador online, you can send emails or post on social media with unique links to NU’s #NUGivingDay pages to help share the message of philanthropy at NU. We encourage our NU Ambassadors to change their profile and cover photos and share the message of giving with their friends and colleagues in the days leading up to #NUGivingDay.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes, gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. You must claim the gift as an itemized deduction on your tax return.

Where will my gift to NU go?

National University directs all gifts exactly as the donor specifies. Expenditures of these gift funds are made by NU administrators, faculty, and staff, according to strict guidelines for the use of the money as specified by the donor. Donors can designate gifts to individual colleges and schools, scholarships, veteran success, and other areas. Donors often allow the University to direct their gifts where they’re needed most. These are called unrestricted gifts.
